40% of men above the age of 50 would experience lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to BPH and this increases up to 70% in men above the age of 70. Erectile dysfunction also has a similar rising incidence as a man gains maturity in age. The treatment of BPH these days does not just focus on improving urinary flow alone. Treatments that affect a man’s sexual function often would result in non-compliance of medications or refusal of possible surgical intervention. This is an update regarding medical treatment as well as other minimally invasive surgical options for your male patients who are coping with this common condition of BPH, as we all strive for better prostate health in these men.
