Medicine, Stents or Surgery for Coronary Artery Disease

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is common and increasingly afflicts younger patients. The spectrum of CAD ... ranges from asymptomatic disease to stable angina to acute coronary syndromes. For most patients with asymptomatic disease or stable angina, medical therapy is the treatment of choice. For patients with refractory angina despite optimal medical therapy, or with acute coronary syndromes, coronary intervention (stents or surgery) is the initial therapy of choice. Most patients with CAD can be treated with modern-day angioplasty techniques and stents, even for patients with triple vessel CAD.

Dermatological Emergencies – What We Cannot Afford to Miss

The importance of early recognition of acute, life-threatening skin rashes cannot be overemphasized. The “Danger ... Signs” of drug rashes include skin pain, skin necrosis, blisters, erosions, non-blanchable erythema, purpura, petechiae, and mucosal involvement. For patients with drug hypersensitivity syndrome, careful monitoring and follow-up of associated hepatitis or renal dysfunction are crucial.

GP Updates on Breast Cancer Screening and Treatment

While some new guidelines have come up for breast cancer screening recently, many breast specialists ... still keep to local guidelines of MMG starting at 40, with the supplementary US if dense breasts. In some sub-groups, screening can be considered starting earlier- but which modality is “the best”? When does genetics testing come in? How urgent is the treatment for breast cancer? Must all patients have surgery first? I’ll share current local workflows, and we can discuss how best to fit this into your practice.
